Update..

So it's been about 3 years since I picked up this train wreck horse, and a long long time since I posted anything here too. He's doing great. We moved to Tennessee last summer. He's living with my friends and has proved to be a great kids horse- not surprising, I know, since he's one of those elusive almost perfect horses (if only he wasn't a cribber..)

Here's a pic of my friend's kiddo riding him a couple days ago. I might dig up some more pics to post here later..

Little update

Louvin's doing quite well. Getting a fair bit of turn out, but he's not very social- see second picture- that's the standard distance between him and the herd. Reckon that's just how he is sometimes. We've tried turning him out with other herds, but he doesn't like any of them. He still gets to occasionally play with his girlfriend, though not very often, that mare is the only critter he even acknowledges.

I'm gonna try to get some new pics taken since we're rapidly approaching one year together, and will be sure to post them. He had a run in with some thorns awhile ago- tore up his neck a bit and had some kinda nasty swelling. Had the vet out and got off pretty easy- 5 days worth of abx and the swelling slowly went away. Other than that, everything's been wonderfully uneventful. :)

Almost 6 months

Got a call from the vet today because Louvin was about due for his semi annuals and she was going to be out at the farm today.

Easy enough, but wow. 6 months? Time does fly. I'll have to get some new pics to post.

Out to play on a lovely day

Today, Louvin got to go out in the big front pasture to play. He seemed to enjoy it but wasn't too excited. Didn't get very good pics or videos, but it's been so long since I last posted some that I figured I'd throw these up anyway.

Twas a dark and stormy night-

I met a gal today about her possibly doing a half lease of Mr. Louvin- an idea I'm totally excited about because there just aren't enough hours in my days anymore.

It was a beautiful day until 5 minutes or so before she arrived when it started sprinkling.. and that turned into a complete downpour right after she showed up. We waited it out and eventually got in a little ride/swim in the arena.

I hadn't been on him in a few weeks, the weather was rotten, the arena was a mess- none of that phased Louvin. He was a perfect gentleman. I rode him around a couple times then she hopped on him- it all went very nicely.

Hopefully we can get all the ducks lined up and Louvin'll have two gals to cater to his every need. It'd be good for him and i think he'll like it too.

On a sadder note, Louvin's namesake Charlie Louvin's health has apparently taken a turn for the worse. He's been fighting cancer for quite sometime and the current word on the streets makes one think the battle will likely soon be over. Poor ol Charlie Louvin, i wish him the best.
